The Raft

Design a museum centered around the theme of “Rafts” in the heart of Pioneer Square. Interpretations of the idea of a Raft will vary from person to person.

I propose that the raft is not merely a tool but rather a destination. It may be a place of retreat, survival, or curiosity, found by either fate or direct action. Acting as an extension of the body and amplifying the world around it, the time spent on the raft becomes a total human experience.

By day, the RAFT is a gallery space that gives visitors a glimpse of the wide variety of rafts found in our world. Ranging from the Makoko Floating School to the Raft of the Medusa, a whole range of emotions can be found within the walls of the RAFT. When the right night comes along however, lights inside the RAFT begin to shine and the music starts to bump. Patrons of the gallery can find themselves dancing with one another, breaking down any barriers they might have had during the nakedness of day.
